For
the last five years M.M.S.I. Espresso Service Co. has provided the
coffee industry with our monthly Barista 101 - 102 Specialty Coffee
Training Classes. Recently we started a new company called Specialty
Wines. Many of our coffee class attendees have encouraged us to
begin teaching an entry level Wine 101 Class,
for both individuals, as well as professional wait staff. The owners
of our company have enjoyed a 25 year passion for wines, and thus
we are pleased to announce the creation of Wine
101 - From the Grapes to the Glass.
Certain facts have contributed to our decision.
- Last year 2004, wine out sold beer in America for the first
time in history.
- Within 5 years, America will become the largest wine consuming
nation in the world.
- The average American is intimidated when ordering wines at a
restaurant.
- Most professional wait staff receives little training when it
comes to assisting customers with wine selections, identifying
an individuals taste, and wine and food pairing.
We believe that with a little training of both the consumer and
those in the profession, we can help make a dinning experience so
much more pleasurable simply by providing some plain
talk teaching about wines.
Our
program consists of a behind the scene film of wine making in France,
Argentina, Chile, Portugal, Italy and California. You will see interviews
with prominent winemakers, merchants, wine stewards and winery owners.
We will cover a variety of topics, such as, Wine Selection, Wine
Tasting, Proper Serving & Storage, Glass Selection, Food Pairings,
Navigating a Wine List, Varietal Characteristics and of course Wine
Making.
All of our students will receive the latest version of Tom Stevenson’s
101 Essential Tips about Wine, which is
full of bite size points that are easy to grasp.
